Theories
Many theories have circulated around island 12 and its history, this page sheds some insight into these explanations. Although some of our content may seem strange and sometimes borderline crazy, be assured everything published is reviewed by our experienced panel.
Possible Location
The island has not been discovered or recognised by any country yet, some believe that the island simply does not exist at all. Another popular theory is that the island has become submerged under the sea and falls into the same category as the lost city of Atlantis.
It seems unlikely that the island can be located in the north sea and remain undiscovered for all this time. But it would not be the first time that maps and geographical calculations have let the world down. Only last year Sandy Island was on every single map and nautical chart in the world and it was common knowledge that this small island sat on the east coast of Madagascar. The catch is that despite the years of international shipping and exploration around the island's location nobody noticed it didn't actually exist until late 2012. This remarkable human error has been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years (Sandy Island was even viewable via Google Earth).

Government Utopia
Many think that island 12 was created by the UK government in the early 60's, the reason to why is still widely debated. Some say to harbour the super elite on a paradise island, other suggest more sinister ideas of controlled weapon testing.
This theory is at the heart of every conspiracy, blaming the goverment has become almost like a ritual when things are unexplainable. But it has become such a common occurrence and goverements have been unsucesffully sheilding the truth from its citizens for years.
Open weapon testing has been exposed throughout the UK's history, this is why many think island 12 may have been an experiment to test a new weapon type. In modern times nuclear testing on islands such as the Bikini Atoll happens regularly, Anthrax Island in Scotland is an older yet just as effective example. So is it so unreasonable that a similar mentality was adapted in the 1960's when the general population hung on their governments every word.
Could Island 12 have started as a new town by the government to test a specialist weapon? If so would there be anyone left to tell the tale anyway.
Unspeakable Horrors
One thing that seems to run through almost every theory is the tale of something terrible happening on Island 12. Sailors and captains have told stories of hearing screaming on the North Sea for years.
Some say that the lost island was once populated by up to 400 hundred citizens until something happened. What this event was is completely unknown. Popular answers include government weapons testing, a portal to hell and even aliens. But one story that captured our imagination here at the Find Island 12 headquarters was the concept of a time vortex malfunction. Essentially the standard time frame has completely fell apart and the island is stuck in the 1960's. But the crisis sent people insane, riots erupted and murder became common practise.
I think we can all agree that in the likely case that Island 12 did exist that something truly worrying happened there. This is why we all must pull together and uncover this monstrosity, keep looking and supporting our website.
